The quote above is from a recent survey that found many people putting off their holidays as they and their pet cat would be too stressed by the whole event.

As a long time cat owner myself I can appreciate the stress of owning a cat and taking a holiday. You book a place at the cattery with reluctance as there seems no alternative. You could ask neighbour or a friend but would they remember? Would they follow your instructions properly?

The day arrives to send your poor feline away for a week a two. You start frantically looking for the cat transport box which you thought you'd left in the ... Anyway eventually you find it.

Next problem, where did the cat go? Cats in my experience have an uncanny habit of knowing when something is up and doing a disappearing trick.

You eventually find him or her hiding on top of the wardrobe and now you have the problem of actually getting them into the transporter without being lacerated.

if your lucky you'll get them into into the box uninjured, and deposit them catawauling loudly in thier new holiday home. You drive away feeling very guilty. Don't get wrong there are some nice catteries these days with caring staff, but (from a cats eye view)it doesn't quite beat being at home, sleeping in your favourite chair or basket, wandering around your own freshly marked patch.
